Seasonal Activities Near Admiral Peary Inn

There's always something to do in Western Maine, close to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. During the summer, go kayaking or bike the White Mountains. Be sure to visit Mount Washington Observatory. When the winter season comes around, hit the slopes of Shawnee Peak, Cranmore Mountain, Wildcat and Attitash. Snowshoeing and Nordic cross-country skiing are also available at the touring center tracks or regional trails.

Lake Kezar Country Club and Bridgton Highlands Country Club provide pristine greens where you can drive and putt to your heart’s content.

Water Recreation

Swim, boat, kayak or canoe through the ample lakes and rivers of the White Mountains. . Saco River is marvelous and a very quick drive from the Admiral Peary Inn. Kayaking / canoeing / tube rental venues located nearby.

Climbing, Hiking, and Biking

Challenging trails and rewarding scenery await you in Western Maine and New Hampshire’s White Mountains. Mountain guides are available from the Mountain Guides Alliance or Appalachian Mountain Club - New Hampshire Chapter. For hiking and climbing equipment, visit the International Mountain Equipment, located in North Conway. For biking equipment, bikes, repairs and bike rentals, visit the Red Jersey Cyclery or Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center.

Winter Activities


The Western Maine Mountains, The Maine Highlands and Aroostook County regions offer miles of groomed and marked snowmobile trails and a variety of amenities as well. The Maine Snowmobile Association has a full list of statewide trails and clubs. Admiral Peary Inn Bed & Breakfast is near seven ski resorts, many of which are in the White Mountains. Downhill ski on more than 450 trails at more than 20 ski areas. You can learn to ski or snowboard with exceptional instructors and tackle the steepest trails in the East. Ice Fishing

When Maine's lakes and rivers freeze over, get your fresh water fishing license and enjoy ice fishing. You'll need an auger or chisel, traps or tip-ups, bait, a pail, ax, snowmobile or snow-sled, and plenty of warm clothing.

Romantic sleigh rides are offered at many of the winter festivities in Maine. The High View Farm provides sleigh rides complete with bells and flannel blankets.

Dog Sledding

Dog sled races and dog sled rides are offered around Maine for those looking for something new and adventurous. Ski joring has just recently been introduced to Maine: skiers are attached by a harness and shock-corded line system and are towed by one or two dogs. Week long adventures are available.
