Horse Drawn Sleigh

Imagine the crisp night air around you, snowflakes swirling about like frosty stars and that special someone sitting beside you as your sleigh glides through the night. Romantic horse drawn sleigh rides are being offered at many of the winter festivities in Maine. Try the High View Farm, which provides sleigh rides complete with bells and flannel blankets. Contact an area chamber of commerce for additional vendors offering sleigh rides.

Dog Sledding

For a truly unique experience try dog sledding. There are dog sled races and dog sled rides offered around Maine for those looking for something new and adventurous. Ski joring has just recently been introduced to Maine: skiers are attached by a harness and shock-corded line system and are towed by one or two dogs, very similar to water skiing. "U-Drive It" is where you step onto the runners of a dog sled and holler "Mush!" It may not be as simple as it sounds. It's definitely a rush but dog sledders recommend you take trekking and mushing lessons. Week long adventures are available.
